Sustainability is more than a goal; it’s a mindset that begins with a single change.

how to be more sustainable this fall.

Fall is the season of change. Leaves turn, temperatures drop, and our routines shift. It is also the perfect time to make small, intentional choices that can have a lasting impact on the planet.

At Aalberts integrated piping systems, sustainability is not just part of what we make. It is part of how we think, design, and operate every day. This fall, we are sharing simple ways you can live and work more sustainably while giving a behind-the-scenes look at how Aalberts is doing the same.

give your pumpkins a second life.

what you can do: When the season ends, skip the trash can and find a new life for your pumpkin instead. Compost it to reduce methane emissions and enrich the soil, feed it to wildlife as a natural food source, or plant the seeds to keep the growing cycle going. You can even turn it into a bird feeder or planter to keep organic materials in circulation.

what we’re doing: Before a pumpkin ever reaches your porch, it relies on clean, safe water to grow. Our “Apollo”® backflow preventers help protect irrigation systems across farms and fields, ensuring that water flows safely and sustainably. Clean water is the foundation of healthy crops and communities, and protecting it is one of the most direct ways to reduce environmental risk.

adjust the thermostat.

what you can do: As cooler weather moves in, set your thermostat near 70 degrees Fahrenheit(21 degrees Celsius) to maintain comfort and energy efficiency. Every degree you lower your heating temperature can reduce energy use by about 3-5%, which helps save both energy and money.

what we’re doing: That same number, 70, is part of our story too. Our “Apollo”® 70 Series valves support energy-efficient heating and cooling systems by providing reliable control and flow management. Precision in HVAC systems helps buildings run more efficiently, which means less wasted energy and lower emissions.

switch to smarter lighting.

what you can do: Shorter days often mean lights stay on longer. This fall, switch to LED lighting in your home or workspace. LEDs use significantly less energy than traditional bulbs and last much longer, which means fewer replacements and less waste.

what we’re doing: Across our facilities in the U.S. and Europe, we have upgraded to LED lighting, reducing lighting-related energy use by 19 percent. It is a simple change with measurable results, and one we are proud to share. Small improvements, when multiplied across systems and locations, create big impact.

reuse what you can.

what you can do: When you finish a project or replace old equipment, look for opportunities to reuse or recycle materials instead of discarding them. Choosing durable, repairable products is another way to extend life cycles and reduce waste.

what we’re doing: In our foundries, nearly all metal scrap is melted and reused to create new Aalberts IPS valves and fittings. This process keeps valuable materials out of landfills and reduces the need for virgin resources. It also aligns with our belief that sustainable design begins at the source.

create daily change.

what you can do: Even small habits can create meaningful change. Invest in a reusable coffee cup, recycle properly, and consider composting at home or at work. Sustainability is easier when it becomes part of your daily routine.

what we’re doing: In our Charlotte, North Carolina office, Aalberts partners with Crown Town Compost to divert food waste from landfills and return it to local gardens as soil. We also continue to improve recycling programs, reduce packaging waste, and install
smart meters to monitor energy use. Every small step adds up, and our teams take pride in finding new ways to reduce waste and improve efficiency at every level of our operations.

In our UK office, we have set up recycling stations and are working with local farmers for composting food waste.

choose products built to last.

what you can do: Whenever possible, invest in quality. Products that last longer reduce the need for replacements and save both materials and energy over time.

what we’re doing: Durability is at the core of Aalberts engineering. Our “Apollo”® Valves, Peglar, Shurjoint, and VSH technology product lines are built for performance and longevity. Each system we design helps reduce downtime, maintenance, and waste, supporting our goal of delivering sustainable value throughout a product’s life cycle.

make every season sustainable.

Sustainability is not exclusive to one season. It is a mindset that can start with a single change, whether that is composting a pumpkin or upgrading a valve in a heating system. At Aalberts integrated piping systems, we apply that mindset year-round. From reusing foundry scrap to improving factory energy efficiency, we are committed to protecting resources and creating smarter, more sustainable systems for the future.
