ahead of World Water Day: protecting water through our products and operations
Our products are designed to support safe, reliable and efficient water systems every day. Across many of our product lines, leak prevention is a key priority, helping create secure joints and dependable systems that reduce the risk of water loss. In this way, our business directly contributes to better water management and more resilient infrastructure.
In 2025, more than 40% of our revenue contributed to SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation. This reflects the important role our solutions play in delivering and protecting one of the world’s most essential resources.
At the same time, we know that responsible water stewardship must also start within our own operations.
Since 2018, Aalberts integrated piping systems has reduced water intensity, measured as cubic metres of water used per million euros of revenue, by 43%. This continued year-on-year improvement shows our focus on using water more efficiently across our sites.
One strong example is our water cleaning and recycling station at our French facility in Saint-Denis-de-l’Hôtel.
circular water solution
The project was developed to improve the way wastewater is treated on site and to support a more circular approach to water use. By introducing a new treatment and recovery system, the site is able to clean and reuse water within its operations rather than discharging it.
The results have been significant. The system was installed in 2019 and is still delivering benefits on a daily basis. In its first year of operation alone, the system saved 1,700 m3 of water, equal to around 30% of the site’s total water consumption. All treated water is recycled back into the cleaning workshop, supporting a zero aqueous discharge approach. Distilled water cleaned of impurities is reused in operations, with town water only used when needed. In addition, many of the older tanks were reused as part of the project, supporting a more resource-efficient approach overall.
A water quality testing bench also helps maintain control and performance, ensuring the recycled water remains suitable for use in the workshop.
World Water Day is a reminder that protecting water starts with everyday actions. At Aalberts integrated piping systems, that means developing products that support reliable water systems, while also finding smarter ways to reduce, recycle and reuse water in our own operations.
Because water is not only essential to our business – it is essential to life.
